Tale of the Trail
From 1915 the Mary Valley branch line was used for transporting agriculture, timber and livestock freight between Brooloo and Gympie. Schoolchildren also used the train in the early days too, as did tourists later on between Gympie and Imbil after the Brooloo section closed in the early 1990s.
In more recent times the tourist steam train has consolidated their service to the Gympie to Amamoor stretch. The Amamoor to Brooloo section has laid dormant for over 10 years, and it is with much excitement that the Mary Valley railway corridor is being invigorated once again, this time in the form of a publicly accessible shared use recreation trail – the Mary Valley Rail Trail.
We would love to hear from you if you would like to offer your help. Would you like to assist with raising awareness of the MVRT, promoting the MVRT, planting native trees, or generally spruiking the virtues of the trail?
